Looks Can Be Deceiving

By Zoe Parker

The clear body is elegant and practical. I have been nothing but well pleased. This kettle may be hard pressed to outperform the British electric kettle which functioned flawlessly through approximately 12,000 - 15,000 heating cycles over a twenty year span. I bought it because it is glass and thought it was "safe". I have returned this kettle. The main problem I have with it is that although it says "polished chrome", it is not.

I recently purchased this teapot after viewing all of the others available on Amazon and reading all of the reviews. This tea kettle is a great, product, for a reasonable price you get a very good product.

I don't know what is wrong with this thing, but it is truly scary. What I think some reviewers may be noticing is the "new" plastic smell that comes from some of the external components, specifically the base and stand. I always use filtered water for cooking and drinking because I am quite sensitive to tastes and odors in my water.

I bought one for my son because he liked mine so much. They wouldn't even say if I could replace the power base. By the way, I did not experience an odor or taste like other reviewers mentioned.

Now I turn this kettle on, brush my teeth and the water is done! The description of a concealed heating element led us to believe that the heated water would have no taste, but from day one this kettle imparts a bad taste. This would still require some material to seal the glass into the metal, but at least it would not be so exposed to the boiling water. Then I opened the lid and used a towel to cover the handle and lid.

Some of the reviews struck me as verging on hysteria, making it sound like the kettle was made out of kryptonite.

I can see it now - in no time I'll be filling it with water and watching as it peels away and crashes into the sink, leaving me holding the remains of the handle. I bought this item a couple of weeks ago and I love it.

I hope it does because we really like the kettle. Despite this I ordered another one (I actually duct-taped the handle of the old one to the carafe and continued to use it until the new one came). No plastic is exposed to the heated water. This is the Beelzebub of kettles.

We've had it two weeks and use it two or three times a day.
